Richard E. Byrd Middle School, established in 1960, is located in Sun Valley. It is the home of the Penguins. This school provides students with a rich education in math through its Gifted/High Achievement Mathematics program. In addition, this school offers a Science Technology and Mathematics magnet. In 2019, approximately 1,602 students attended this school and there was a student/teacher ratio of 26:1.
